Henrik Sillem (1866-1907)
The second of the modern Olympics were held in Paris in 1900. One Henrik Sillem, J. D., from Amsterdam won the bronze medal in pistol shooting. Together with his friend Solko van den Bergh and Frenchman Francois Monod
he had initiated the first world championships of pistol shooting in
1897. Those were held in Lyon and are considered to be the predecessor
of the Olympic competition in that discipline.
Henrik Sillem died only 41 years old. In an attempt to climb Mont Blanc he fell and lost his life.
